Here’s a shot from the Santa Cruz pier. At first, it was disappointing that it was a rainy day but mostly because it wasn’t the kind of day where it rained constantly but it reminded me of a time in Thailand where the rain came and went without any warning. It would be completely sunny one minute and literally 90 seconds later it would be coming down sideways. This kind of weather is especially hard on the amateur photographer that doesn’t know the optimal way to protect $2,000 of “hobby” equipment.
So, after walking in freezing rain for 20 minutes without adequate clothing I finally made it to the end of the pier to find this girl smoking a cigarette alone in the rain with her umbrella. I pulled out the camera just long enough to snap one frame before diving it back into my bag before catching more water around its edges. I’m happy that something pleasant came out of it all.
